Laurel’s March Wrap Up

The marvelous thing about March is that it’s a month with 31 days…and my birthday.

The horrible thing about March is that it’s a month with 31 days…with report cards and taxes.

That said…let’s commence with the wrap up!

What I Read…

I actually read these in February… but I forgot to add them into the blog – this series was recommended to me by a close friend and fellow book-addict (shout out to Beth…again 😀 )

First Grave on the Right, Second Grave on the Left, Third Grave Dead Ahead, Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet, Fifth Grave Past the Light, Sixth Grave on the Edge, Seventh Grave and No Body, Eighth Grave After Dark, The Dirt on Ninth Grave, The Curse of the Tenth Grave and Eleventh Grave in Moonlight by Darynda Jones ~ This series follows the Grim Reaper who is not a darkly robed ancient man carrying a scythe…instead she is a part time private detective who sees dead people and tries to guide them to the light. Of course…it’s not that simple! Sometimes dead people want to resolve old issues with the living…like putting their murderer in jail just to name one. To complicate Charley’s life even further – she becomes involved with a dark, mysterious and definitely sinister but sexy ‘guy.’ If you start reading one you have to pick up the rest…I definitely got invested in her adventures and mis-adventures so I managed to read through the 11th book before life got in the way…as it often does *sigh*

Who hasn’t wanted to say this out loud to someone sometime in their life…

History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera ~ Griffin is a perfect example of a “more than meets the eye” protagonist…I flip flopped between empathizing and rolling my eyes at him.
Silvera’s storytelling is impeccable…gosh, he can take a simple premise and turn it into a multi-faceted novel. Thought the ending was perfect.

Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller ~ Sassy intelligent female pirates, a search for a treasure map, and a ship full of blood thirsty pirate-characters equals a must read.
And Riden is definitely in my  list of top 10 book boyfriends!

The Inexplicable Logic of My Life by Benjamin Alire Saenz ~ I’m a huge fan of Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe so I was expecting something as epic as Aristotle and Dante’s story – however this story missed the spot for me – Sal and Samantha are best friends who have grown up together – the story revolves around Sal and Samantha dealing with a huge loss, and how they deal with the grief. Good, but not magical.

Hunted by Megan Spooner ~ …meh…Beauty and the Beast retelling based on classical Beauty and the Beast stories and tropes…but…meh…so ‘meh’ it became a DNF. The cover is stunningly beautiful though! Maybe I’ll give this one a second try when my TBR pile goes down a bit.

What I Watched…

She Was Pretty (Korean Drama) can be found on

16 episodes of pure marathon material (giggles and tears included)

Dramafever ~ Story goes like this. Beautiful girl befriends chubby boy. Boy has to move far far away, in this case…the States. Years later the two have dramatically changed – the beautiful girl has become not-so-beautiful, and the chubby boy has become a gorgeous successful editor of a fashion magazine. This romantic comedy follows the ups and downs – and miscommunications (because…hello…this is a Kdrama!) between this couple as they ‘reunite’ for a happily-ever-after.

My favorite “2nd lead” ever 🙂 Do you recognize him? You might recognize him as Siwon of Super Junior.

Beauty and the Beast (Disney) Disney princesses are beloved or beloathed all over the world – no matter your opinion you cannot escape their manicured grip on popular culture. Especially this month with the release of Beauty and the Beast in theaters. Belle has always been my favorite Princess: a.) she loves books and reading b.) she likes to wear ballet flats c.) she got to be a prisoner in a castle with a fabulous library and a singing teapot, and of course, d.) she won the heart of the beastly Prince who magically transformed into the handsome blue-eyed Dan Stevens…oh wait…that’s just in this adaptation…in any case…she lived her ‘happily ever after’ with a gorgeous Prince.

So many feels – I laughed, I cried, I stared in wonder over how blue Dan Stevens’ eyes really are…

What I Listened To…

My Voice (1st full album) artist Taeyeon ~ If you just know a little about me, you know that I have recently discovered the black hole that is called Kpop. The songs, the solo artists, the idol groups, the music videos and variety shows – all have become my non-guilty pleasure. Taeyeon is the leader of SNSD (Girls Generation) and she is also a first-rate solo artist who promotes her albums with new concepts that range from bohemian to pop princess. My Voice is her first full album (she has a lot of singles and mini-albums) and is amazing. Tracks 1 ‘Fine’, 2 ‘Cover Up’ 3 ‘Feel So Fine’ 4 ‘I Got Love’ and 12 ‘Eraser’  and Track 13 have been on repeat ever since the CD came in the mail.

Taeyeon – Korean’s version of Ariadne Grande, Taylor Swift and Beyonce combined…

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne ~ Adore the book so much that of course – I have to listen to it before bed for sweet dreams. IheartJosephTempleman4ever!

March has 31 days and I know I should have read more… however I shall claim report cards, taxes, conferences and birthday laziness as my excuse.

However, April has Spring Break and the pile of books on my nightstand are already emitting a pretty seductive siren’s call…perfect for next month’s wrap up.

Happy Spring!
